Your Levy Is Already Paid: HRD Corp Training for Employers

Registered Malaysian employers contribute to a training fund every month. Most under-claim it. What that means for a team whose English is holding it back.

If your company is registered with HRD Corp, you are contributing to a training levy every month whether or not you use it. A great many employers under-claim, and the fund sits there while the same communication problems repeat in meetings, emails and client calls.

Premium is an HRD Corp registered training provider, which means our corporate programmes can be delivered as claimable training rather than as a new line in your budget.

The problem is rarely “English”

When a company tells us its team needs English, the actual difficulty is usually narrower and more specific:

  • Engineers who read technical documentation confidently but avoid speaking in meetings with overseas colleagues.
  • Client-facing staff whose written English is formal to the point of sounding cold, or informal to the point of sounding careless.
  • Managers who can hold a conversation but not chair one, negotiate in it, or deliver difficult news in it.
  • Teams that operate fine internally and lose confidence the moment a call goes international.

A general English course fixes none of these efficiently, because it spends most of its hours on ground the team already holds. What works is training aimed at the specific situations where the language is failing — which is why our corporate work starts with finding out what those situations are, rather than with a syllabus.

How the training runs

Sessions run at your premises or at our centre on Jalan Bukit Bintang, in whatever shape fits the operation — intensive blocks, or weekly sessions that do not empty the office. Content is built around your actual documents, calls and scenarios, because staff engage with the report they have to write on Thursday in a way they do not engage with a textbook dialogue.

The measure of corporate training is not what the team knew at the end of the course. It is what changed in the meetings afterwards.

What to have ready

A conversation goes faster if you can say roughly how many staff are involved, what they do, and which specific situations are going wrong. If you are not sure of their level, we can assess that — it is the same placement test our students take, and it tends to redistribute a group in ways managers do not expect.

We have delivered training for government departments, industry bodies and private companies, and the corporate page sets out the formats and the areas we cover. If a claimable programme is what you are weighing up, talk to us before you plan the budget rather than after.
