Dearest Readers,
Allow me to unveil the story of how I came to embrace the English language, a tale not unlike the grand romances and adventures that adorn the screens and stages of our world. From the tenderest age, it was not simply a choice, but an elegant entanglement with the language that had been whispered to me since I first took breath.
Ah, but it was not the staid teachings of textbooks that wooed me. No, my heart was claimed by far more dazzling suitors: the musical series, the movies, and the animated worlds that danced before my eyes. I must confess, Hi-5 and High School Musical were the very first to seize my fancy. Their infectious melodies and spirited performances were not just entertainment, they were invitations to join in, to sing my way through the intricacies of this beautiful language. Each note, each lyric, pulled me deeper into the folds of English, until I found myself utterly enchanted.
And what of the cinema, you ask? Ah, there I found Jumanji, Home Alone, and A Night at the Museum, each a treasure trove of language wrapped in thrilling escapades. Through these films, I did not merely learn words. I learned how to speak, to converse with the same wit and vigour as the heroes and heroines on the screen. The very cadence of English became as natural to me as the rise and fall of breath. Yet, it was the animated realm that truly stirred the fires of my imagination. Shrek, Barbie, and Magic English. Oh, how they captured my youthful heart! With their lively characters and whimsical stories, they taught me more than simple phrases; they taught me to dream in English. I confess, Magic English was particularly designed for my education, yet it felt as though it were crafted solely for my enjoyment. Each episode was a secret rendezvous with the language, as if the very letters danced together just for me.
From my earliest days, my parents, ever the wise arbiters of my destiny, insisted upon English as the language of our home. Indeed, I was but a child when I first crawled across the floor to the soft sounds of their English conversations. It was the only language I knew, and thus the only one I could choose. In truth, my heart had no other suitor, for English was my constant companion, my first and only love. When I entered the hallowed halls of kindergarten, it was not enough to simply speak. No, I was drawn to the stage, to the art of storytelling. Each competition, each tale, became an opportunity to weave English into a tapestry of emotion and expression. Through these humble beginnings, I discovered not only a love for the language but a passion for sharing it with the world.
So, dear reader, it is clear that my affair with English was never one of obligation. Rather, it was a courtship, a slow and delightful dance that began with music, blossomed with cinema, and found its true heart in the animated stories that fueled my imagination. In the end, I could not resist the pull of this language, nor would I wish to. English, like any grand romance, swept me off my feet and carried me away to realms I could only have dreamed of.
Yours truly,
Ms. Farhanah Kamaludin
